Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder with a continuously rising incidence and is considered one of the most lethal non-communicable diseases in the world. Objective: Analysis of the association between treatment adherence and glycemic control among patients with type 2 diabetes treated at Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital. Method: A cross-sectional description study on 90 patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The study subjects underwent in-person interviews with a standardized questionnaire. Results: The overall treatment adherence rate was 10.0%. Medication adherence was 86.7% (55.6% good adherence and 31.1% partial adherence). Dietary adherence was 57.8% (22.2% good and 35.6% partial). Adherence to physical activity was 33.3% (22.2% good and 11.1% partial). Adherence to scheduled follow-up visits was 83.3%. Target glycemic control was achieved in 24.4% of patients, including 5.6% with good adherence to home blood glucose monitoring and 18.8% with partial adherence. Conclusion: 100% adhere to treatment achieve target blood glucose levels. There is a correlation between treatment compliance and blood glucose control level in type 2 diabetic patients treated at Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, however p > 0.05.
