Abstract

Background: Clinical features of paediatric Urinary tract infection are remarkably non-specific, especially in younger children, prevalence varies with age of children. Objectieves: To describe the clinical and subclinical characteristics of children with urinary tract infections from 2 months to 5 years old at Pediatrics of Department in Quang Ninh Provincial Hospital. Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study of 48 children from 2 months to 5 years old at Pediatrics of Department in Quang Ninh Provincial Hospital from January 2024 to October 2024. Results: Prevalence rates of urinary tract infections (UTI). UTIs affect 64.6% of girls, male/female ratio: 1/2, average age is 26.25 ± 18.72 months. Symptoms include high fever (97.9%), frequent urination (4.2%), urination with pain/crying when urinating (6.3%), chills (25.0%), fatigue (41.7%). WBC an average of 15.27 ± 6.60 (G/L), NEU an average of 56.18 ± 19.30%, CRP quantification showed that 85.57 ± 61.59 (mg/l) of children had increased CRP. Urine test showed that children tested for urine had leukocytes in urine (100%), positive urinary hematocrit accounted for 85.4%. The rate of positive urine culture was 10.4%. Among the urine culture results, pathogenic bacteria were found: The most pathogenic bacteria were E.coli (60.0%), followed by E.facecalis (40.0%). Conclusions: The rate of urinary tract infections is high in female children. Clinical symptoms are common in children with high fever, chills, frequent urination/crying when urinating. Blood test showed increased white blood cell count, increased CRP, urine test had positive urinary leukocytes, the main cause was still E.coli.
