Abstract
Background: Clinical, paraclinical characteristics and results of treatment of COVID–19 among children at Thai Nguyen National Hospital Objectives: The study aims to describe the clinical and paraclinical characteristics and results of treatment of COVID-19 among children at Thai Nguyen National Hospital. Methods: The cross-sectional study was carried out on 544 children with COVID-19 from December 2021 to April 2023 at Thai Nguyen National Hospital. Results: The study on 544 children who met the criteria showed that the group of children aged 1-5 years old accounted for the highest proportion at 39.2%. 84.9% of the patients had mild disease. The male/female ratio was 1.65/1. The two most common clinical symptoms of children infected with COVID-19 were fever (88.2%) and cough (85.1%), with statistical significance p < 0.05. Other common symptoms were fatigue (58.8%), runny nose (22.4%), pulmonary rales (22.8%), vomiting (15.8%), and poor appetite (66.2%). Lymphocytopenia; AST, CRP, LDH, Ferrtin, D-dimer were significantly increased in patients with COVID-19. X-ray lesions were mainly opacities, left lung position. Treatment and discharge from the hospital mainly in children with mild disease on average accounted for 98.5%. 0.4% of deaths occurred in children with critical illness with statistical significance p < 0.05. The majority of clinical and subclinical symptoms found in children with COVID-19 were mild and moderate. Conclusions: The majority of clinical and subclinical symptoms, and results of treatment found in children with COVID-19 were mild and moderate. However, the study suggests that close monitoring, evaluation and better control of these symptoms are needed to prevent the risk of progression to severe conditions and death.
