Abstract
Background: Percutaneous transhepatic laser lithotripsy has been applied with promising results. Objective: To evaluate the results of percutaneous transluminal laser holmium lithotripsy of bile duct stones at Agricultural General Hospital in Hanoi in 2023. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 60 patients with choledocholithiasis at General Hospital of Agricultural from January 2023 to December 2023. Results: The stone clearance was 98.3%; the rate of postoperative complications was 36.7%, with 16.7% experiencing pleural effusion and pneumonia. The surgical outcomes were categorized as good in 58.3% of cases and average in 41.7%; no cases were classified as poor. The number, location, and size of biliary stones were associated with the surgical outcomes (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Percutaneous transhepatic laser lithotripsy under digital subtraction X-ray guidance is a safe and effective technique in the treatment of biliary stones.
