Abstract

Background: The Family Medicine model has been shown to improve the quality of healthcare services and reduce the burden on hospitals, particularly in the context of increasingly complex healthcare demands. Numerous studies have demonstrated the positive impact of this model; however, in Vietnam - especially in Thai Nguyen - Family Medicine remains relatively unfamiliar and under-researched. Therefore, it is essential to investigate the demand for and factors influencing access to this model. Objective: This study aims to assess the current status and identify key factors influencing the demand for healthcare services within the Family Medicine model in Thai Nguyen city in 2024. Method: 425 residents of Thai Nguyen city participated in a cross-sectional descriptive study. Results: According to the Family Medicine model, 41.6% of persons have health care needs. Good service quality (39.6%) and good service costs (53.7%) are the most prevalent reasons for seeking it. The most commonly cited reason for non-participation in the model is its relative novelty and limited public awareness (62.1%). Conclusion: The Family Medicine model identifies several elements influencing health care demand: income and education levels, the pursuit of high-quality services, favorable perceptions of medical staff, affordability, and apprehension towards novel and unconventional models. It is necessary to strengthen communication to raise public awareness about the Family Medicine model, ensure service quality and healthcare staff attitude, and adjust service costs to match income levels. Additionally, pilot and expand the model in Thai Nguyen to meet healthcare needs.
