Abstract

Background: Psychological stress is a non-specific response of the body to stressful situations. When encountering stress, the body reacts to stressors in order to adapt; if it is unable to adapt, stress may develop into a pathological condition. Objective: Describe the level of psychological stress and to analyze the factors influencing clincal stressor of nursing bachelor students. Methods: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study; data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The subjects were third- and fourth-year full-time nursing students at Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Results: The highest proportion (64.5%) of full-time nursing students experienced a moderate level of psychological stress. The average psychological stress score among these students was moderate (82.14 ± 17.67). Factors significantly associated with psychological stress included gender, academic year, professional passion, academic performance, residence, financial support, expenditure level, physical exercise, recreational activities, and clinical practicum environment (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Full-time nursing students have mainly moderate levels of psychological stress, related to many personal and environmental factors, suggesting a need to improve safe and supportive learning and practice environments. The study recommends enhancing a safe, supportive, and friendly clinical practicum environment for nursing students.
