Abstract

Background: Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an essential competency for nursing professionals. However, there is limited knowledge regarding the EBP knowledge, attitudes, and practices of Vietnamese nursing students (SNs). Objective: To determine the current state of EBP knowledge, attitudes, and practice among undergraduate SNs. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from April, 2023 to April, 2024. Data were collected from SNs at a public university in Vietnam using the ‘Student Evidence-based Practice Questionnaire (S-EBPQ)’. Results: The mean score of S-EBPQ was 3.6 ± 0.4, and the subscales were attitudes (4.2 ± 0.8), knowledge (3.7 ± 0.6), and practice (3.2 ± 0.4). SNs’ age had a significant positive correlation (r = 0.526, p < 0.001) with EBP competency. Compared to second-year students, the third-and fourth-grade SNs had higher EBP scores in attitudes and knowledge (all p < 0.001). Students who had previously participated in research activities scored significantly higher on EBP scores compared to those who had not (p < 0.05). Conclusion: These findings highlight the need to strengthen education and support in order to enhance evidence-based practice competency among undergraduate nursing students.
